Which Stud Star do I need?
Note: It is important that you choose your studs before purchasing Performance Stud Stars® , as the stud star backers you’ll need will depend largely upon your track and the studs your are planning to use. Your sled dealer can give you the best information about your vehicle track, as well as suggest the style, brand, head diameter and length stud that will best fit your needs. Fitting Guide
137RN
All tracks using 1″ diameter studs
Our PMM137RN Stud Stars are your best fit. The ‘R’ in their name indicates they are a regular height stud retainer.
They have the 1.37″ diameter base and have been extended to 0.68″ tall.
162RN

With the newer, wider pitched track comes the opportunity to use studs with a larger diameter head, lending more stability and support to your ride.
For this reason we recommend the PMM162RN Stud Stars.
They have the 1.68″ diameter base and have been extended to 0.68″ tall.

Impact Gun Installation Video
Impact Gun Installation
- It is assumed that you have chosen your studs and stud pattern before purchasing our Stud Stars.
- Drill track according to stud manufacturer instructions.
- Insert your stud from the inside of the track so that the shaft is protruding to the outside.
- Spin Stud Stars Backer onto stud by hand as far as they will easily go.
- Apply soap and water mixture to assist with installation.
-
- Attach our unique Stud Star Wrench to a driving tool by means of a 13/16″ Socket (cordless impact guns with a 1/2″ drive work well).
- Place installation tool onto Stud Star fitting snug into machined Starburst grooves.
- Tighten until stud head is pulled flush (or slightly more) into track. If you are using an impact gun 18 Ft-Lbs of torque will suffice. The level of torque required may vary depending upon the level of lubrication
applied.
- It should take a minimal amount of torque. You will develop a feel for the amount of torque required as you go, dependent upon the tool you use. A good gauge is to look at the amount of threads protruding from the top of the Stud Star. Be sure to set them all the same, noting how deep you pull the stud heads into the track.
